Pagewell is a document reader for Android made by Truetech Solutions. The short version: your documents stay on your phone, you don't need an account, and the app has no advertising. It sends usage statistics and crash reports, not linked to your name or any account, which never include your documents or their names. This policy explains the details.
Who we are
Pagewell (the “app”) and this website are provided by Truetech Solutions (SMC-Private) Limited (“Truetech Solutions”, “we”, “us”), a company registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan. You can reach us at info@truetechsol.org.
Your documents
Pagewell opens documents that are already on your phone: files you pick, files you open with Pagewell from another app, and, if you allow it, the documents it lists in the Files tab. Every document is read and drawn on your phone. Word, PowerPoint and older Excel files are drawn by viewers built into the app, which are not allowed to reach the internet, so a document's content cannot be sent anywhere while you read it. We do not operate a server for Pagewell, and the app never uploads your documents to us. We cannot see, access or recover them.
To show your Recent list, the app remembers the address and name of each document you open, when you opened it and whether you starred it, in its private storage on your phone. To open a document, it may keep a temporary copy in its private cache. Neither ever leaves your phone, and you can remove a document from the list at any time.
Your documents leave the app only when you choose to move them:
- Tools and editors (such as Merge, Compress, Edit PDF or Edit Word) save their result as a new file in your Downloads folder (Downloads/Pagewell). Your original file is not changed. Other apps on your phone with access to that folder can read the new file.
- Share hands the file to the app you choose, such as email, messaging or cloud storage. What happens next is governed by that app's own privacy policy.
- Print hands the document to Android's printing service and the printer you choose.
No account, no ads
Pagewell has no sign-up or login and no advertising. It does not use your advertising ID, it never reads your phone's location, and it does not collect your contacts or any other personal information. (The approximate location PostHog estimates from an IP address is described below.)
Usage statistics and crash reports
To learn which features are used and to fix crashes, the app sends two kinds of information. Neither is linked to your name or any account, and neither can contain a document, a document's name or anything you type.
- Usage statistics, sent to PostHog. A fixed list of events: the app was opened or closed (with the app version, and whether it was a first open or an update), a screen was opened (by its name, such as "home" or "viewer_pdf", never what is on it), the welcome screen was finished, a document opened (its type, such as PDF or Word, where it was opened from, such as the Recent list or another app, how long it took, whether it was password-protected, and for your first document how long after installing), a document could not be opened (its type and the reason, such as an old format or a damaged file), a password-protected PDF was opened, a wrong password was entered or the prompt was cancelled, search was used inside a document (only whether it found nothing, one, a few or many matches, never what you searched for), a reader action was used (share, print, edit, night reading, or starring), you answered the All files access screen (granted or not), the Files tab listed your documents (only how many), a tool was opened and whether it finished, failed or met a wrong password, an edit was saved (PDF, Word or text, and how many changes), you chose Open, Share or Done after saving, the theme was switched to light or dark, a Go Premium banner was tapped, a Pro tool was reached (and whether its free try was used or the Pro screen opened), a free try was used, a short note about Pro was shown, the Pro screen was opened or closed (what opened it, the plan selected and how long it was open), a plan was selected, a purchase was started, completed, cancelled or failed (the plan, the Google Play product, and the type of error), a restore was started and its result, Pro was switched on or off, the app asked Google Play to show the rating sheet, the "Rate", "More apps" or default-reader tip in Settings was tapped, and an in-app update was offered, declined, downloaded or installed (never your rating or review).
When you open the app and when you leave it, it also sends a summary, made only of numbers and settings: how many documents are in your Recent list and how many are starred, how many documents you have opened and tools you have finished in total, whether All files access is on, whether Pro is on, your theme, and how many days since you installed Pagewell.
Each event carries a random ID created on your phone, the app version, and the phone's maker, model, Android version, language, time zone and screen size. It is not linked to your name, email, Google account or any other ID. As with any internet request, PostHog receives your connection's IP address. It may use it to estimate an approximate location (country, region and city, typically accurate to tens or hundreds of kilometres), and it does not store the IP address itself. Pagewell itself never reads your location, and we do not use it to identify you. - Crash reports, sent to Google's Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes or an operation fails, a report with the technical details of the error (where in the code it happened), the app version, the phone's model and Android version, its state at the time (such as free memory and orientation), and a random installation ID. Messages that could contain a file name are removed before sending. Crashlytics deletes crash reports after 90 days.
Neither ever includes your documents, their content, file or folder names, passwords, edited text or what you search for. We use this information only to improve Pagewell; we do not sell it or use it for advertising.
Purchases
Pagewell Pro is bought through Google Play, as a weekly, monthly or yearly subscription; the yearly plan may start with a free trial offered by Google Play. We never receive your payment details. Purchases are verified through RevenueCat, which receives the Google Play purchase record (the product, its price and currency, the purchase token and date), a random ID it creates for the app on your phone, and the phone's model and Android version. RevenueCat does not receive your name or email address. This lets Pro be restored on a new phone; the app also remembers the answer on your device so Pro works offline. The app gives RevenueCat the same random usage-statistics ID described above, and RevenueCat sends us its purchase records under that ID through PostHog (the plan, its price and currency, and when it started, renewed, was cancelled, refunded or ended). These records never include your name, email address or payment details. Google's handling of your purchase is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Permissions
- All files access (optional), so the Files tab can list the documents on your phone. Pagewell only reads document files (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and text) to list and open them, on your phone. You can use the app without it: pick files yourself, or open them from another app.
- Storage (Android 9 only), to save the results of tools in your Downloads folder.
- Internet, for purchases and for the usage statistics and crash reports described above. Your documents are never uploaded.
Pagewell does not request your camera, microphone, contacts or location.
Other data on your phone
- Settings, such as theme, night reading, whether you have seen the welcome screen, how many free tries you have used and whether you own Pro, are stored on your phone.
- Passwords. A password you type to open a PDF, or to lock one, is used only for that file and is not stored by the app. We cannot recover a forgotten password.
Device backups
Pagewell opts out of Android's automatic cloud backup, so its data is not copied to Google's backup servers without your knowledge. Your documents themselves stay wherever they already are on your phone.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use this only to reply to you and to improve Pagewell, and we do not share it with anyone else.
This website
pagewell.truetechsol.org does not use cookies, analytics or third-party scripts. Like any website, it is delivered through hosting and network providers (currently Vercel and Cloudflare), which process technical data such as IP addresses in their server logs to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Children
Pagewell is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children. The app collects no personal information such as names or email addresses from anyone, including children. The only location information is PostHog's approximate estimate from an IP address, described under Usage statistics.
Your choices and rights
Because your documents and settings are stored only on your phone, you are in control of them: you can remove documents from the Recent list, delete files, or remove everything the app keeps by uninstalling it. We do not hold a copy that we could provide or delete for you. Usage statistics and crash reports are tied only to a random ID on your phone, so we cannot tell which of them are yours; uninstalling the app removes that ID and stops them. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, write to info@truetechsol.org.
Changes to this policy
If Pagewell starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
